From the Stage to the Lifestyle Block – Tony “Nail” Vincent’s Shed Story
Most New Zealanders know Tony “Nail” Vincent as the powerhouse guitarist behind Devilskin, one of the country’s most successful rock bands. With multiple number-one albums, platinum records, and the distinction of becoming New Zealand’s first Gibson Artist, Tony has spent decades creating the unmistakable sound that has earned Devilskin a fiercely loyal following throughout the country.
Away from the stage lights and sold-out venues, Tony’s focus is much closer to home. Set on a sloping lifestyle property, he wanted a shed that was more than just a place to park vehicles. He needed a practical space that worked with the contours of the land, complemented the design of the home, and provided a dedicated workshop where he could tinker, create, and, in his own words, “make a bit more noise.”
That journey began with a chance conversation at the National Fieldays in 2025, where Tony met Jess from Wide Span Sheds. After discussing the site and reviewing the different options, the team designed a custom 12m x 7m mono pitch shed tailored specifically to the property. The mono pitch roofline was the ideal choice for the sloping site, following the natural contours of the land and creating a building that felt like a seamless extension of the home. As Tony explains, “The mono pitch suited the sloping property and fitted the contours of the land perfectly. It just looked right.”
The completed shed features two enclosed garage bays and a dedicated workshop on the end, providing the ideal balance between secure storage and functional workspace. Whether it is housing vehicles, storing tools, or giving Tony a place to work on projects, the layout delivers the flexibility he was looking for. Finished in COLORSTEEL® Grey Friars and Ebony, the building was carefully designed to complement both the natural landscape and the existing home. “We chose the colours because they worked well with the house and looked awesome,” Tony says.
Because the building platform imposed some restrictions, the design had to be tailored precisely to maximise the available space. Working closely with Jess and the Wide Span team ensured the final result made the most of every square metre and fit the site perfectly. “Jess helped us create the best possible solution for the site,” Tony says. “It fits in perfectly.”
The use of Wide Span’s steel frame system also meant the build was efficient, tidy, and delivered a premium-quality finish. “We chose the steel frame because it goes up quickly, looks smart, and complements the property.” Just as importantly, Tony says the overall experience was seamless from start to finish. “The communication was great, and the shed went up with relative ease.”
Tony’s advice to other Kiwis considering a new shed is simple: “If you’re after a tidy shed that goes up efficiently, looks awesome, and fits the purpose of your property, I’d say go for it.”
For Wide Span Sheds, this project is especially significant. Tony “Nail” Vincent has been recognised as our first-ever Shed Legend -an accolade reserved for customers whose projects stand out for their individuality, quality, and the story behind them. Helping one of New Zealand’s most respected musicians create a purpose-built space to store his gear, work on projects, and continue making music for thousands of fans made this a truly memorable build.
From the roar of the crowd to the peace of the lifestyle block, Tony’s shed is a reflection of everything he values: quality, creativity, and a structure built to perform for decades to come.
